Our Shining Legacy: The Waller Jewelry Company

Saturday, January 21, 2023

Our Shining Legacy, The Waller-Dungee Family Story, 1900-2020, chronicles the fascinating story of this renowned African American family of Richmond, Virginia. In 1900, Richard Waller established a jewelry business, and Florence Waller completed the Richmond Colored Normal School and became a teacher. The book narrates stories, recounts anecdotes, and presents numerous photos of their lives and endearing tales of the six Waller siblings growing up in segregated Richmond. Despite the obstacles faced, generations of Wallers and Dungees survived and thrived. The International Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) selected Our Shining Legacy as the 2021 Winner: Non-Fiction: Historical Category in recognition of the highly acclaimed book.
