Virginia is for Music Lovers: A History of Virginia’s Black Excellence in Music

01 Jun 2024 - 27 Jul 2024

To commemorate Black Music Month, we will host a special interactive pop-up exhibition called “Silent Music: Virginia is for Music Lovers” that showcases the vibrant heritage of Black music in Virginia. This exhibition highlights the talents of local Virginia artists, musicians, DJs, and historians – illustrating their contributions to the soulful rhythms and powerful narratives of the African American experience. QR codes unlocking curated playlists of Black music complementing the visual art and thematic narratives of the exhibition will accompany each piece on display. Visitors can also listen through headphones to create a multisensory experience that deepens their understanding of the intricate connections between music and history.
