The Virginia 250 Passport is a commemorative booklet designed to highlight historic sites across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA) is proud to announce its selection as a featured site for the Virginia 250 Passport program. Launched on November 11, the Virginia 250 Passport is a commemorative booklet designed to highlight historic sites across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The initiative encourages residents and visitors to explore meaningful learning and engagement opportunities to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence.
“We’re honored to be included as one of the 70 sites included in the Virginia 250 Passport program,” said Shakia Gullette Warren, Executive Director of BHMVA. “This partnership reflects our commitment to ensuring that Black history remains central to the broader story of America’s journey and ongoing evolution.”
Running through December 31, 2026, the Virginia 250 Passport program offers visitors an interactive way to celebrate Virginia’s historic and cultural landmarks. Passports will be distributed free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. Each participating site will provide a custom stamp as part of its original Passport Site Kit.
The 64-page commemorative booklet features detailed descriptions of all 70 participating museums and historic sites, organized by region: Central Virginia, Northern Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, Southwestern Virginia, and Tidewater.
Other signature sites in the launch include Virginia Museum of History and Culture, Colonial Williamsburg, Mount Vernon, Monticello, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s Jamestown Settlement, and American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. The initiative also includes the VA250 Mobile Museum, all 12 Virginia Welcome Centers, and will feature select events around the anniversary.
Visitors who collect stamps throughout their journey can enjoy additional rewards:
- Receive up to 15% off admission at select participating locations after earning a stamp
- Collect five or more stamps to become eligible for a grand prize drawing in December 2026, which includes a yearlong museum membership and cash award.
