Students from Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, and Chesterfield County Public Schools will come together for a day of fun and learning at the Children’s Book Festival in Abner Clay Park.  This is our inaugural book festival and we are excited to have Dominion as our presenting sponsor and NBC12 as our media sponsor!!

This FREE event  is designed for first and second graders with innovative programming focusing on reading literacy.  We will include interactive illustrative sessions, readings by celebrity authors, music and art integrated activities, and free book giveaways for all 500 students in attendance as well as books for the libraries in their participating schools.

Our goal is to become an additional resource for students by supporting reading literacy and summer learning. The BHMVA vision is to be a museum that shares inspiring stories of African American history and also creates a new and thriving space to engage our community and originate narratives for the future.  This event complements our mission perfectly highlighting learning opportunities, African American accomplishments, and community partnerships.
